National Card Contest is Solution to Winter Blues

LOUISVILLE, KY - Soon, children will be home from school for the holidays and looking for entertainment; and parents will be scurrying to find projects to keep kids busy. KFC® offers a solution to holiday havoc—encourage children to create homemade cards.

KFC® invites fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders around the country to enter the "All-American Salute to Mothers" national card contest -- designed to honor mothers across the country. This year, KFC has teamed up with Recycled Paper Greetings to produce and sell the winning card.

How to Enter
The cards will be judged based on writing, illustration, originality and sincerity of expression– all entries are due December 31st, 1999. Send card entries to KFC’s "All-American Salute to Mothers" c/o Edelman Public Relations, 200 E. Randolph, 63rd floor, Chicago, IL 60601. For contest information, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the address above. All cards will be returned prior to Mother’s Day.

Prizes
The grand-prize winner will receive $5,000 and a trip for two to Los Angeles for the national unveiling of his/her card. The winning card will be produced and sold nationally by Recycled Paper Greetings. The second-place winner will receive $1,500; the third-place winner will win $750; and seven fourth-place winners will each receive $500. The top 10 finalists’ teachers will each receive the Microsoft Encarta Reference Suite 2000.

There will be 51 state winners, including the District of Columbia. Each state winner will receive the Microsoft Encarta Reference Suite 2000—which combines the Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2000, Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2000 and the Encarta World English Dictionary. Winners also receive a KFC "All-American Salute to Mothers" award certificate and $25 in KFC gift certificates to treat Mom to dinner on Mother’s Day.
